Dear Students, Parents and Colleagues:
I am extremely excited to be the new Art teacher at MJS and join the Hanover Township community! I am a painter who previously taught middle school Art full-time for the past five years.
This year, MJS students will complete dynamic projects in drawing, collage, painting, ceramics, and sculpture. Each day will begin with our Artist of the Day activity to introduce a new artist. Also, Art Club will be held on Thursday afternoons and a student-created school mural is planned.
I believe in providing accessible lessons to foster a lifelong appreciation for art and aesthetics among all students. We live in a visual culture full of fashion, industrial design, advertisements, and both human-made and natural environments-- so art and aesthetics surround us. By creating and discussing art, children become more creative and articulate, traits that will boost their success in any career someday.
In the art room, students may find illustrated displays about the art elements and design principles, art vocabulary, iconic works from art history, and important art movements; each of these displays can also be found on this page as a slide show for your review.
I look forward to a productive year where creating and showcasing student artwork has a central place in the MJS community.
Warmly, Mr. Rockland
